Boise, Atlanta and Denver: Three U.S. Cities Where Business Can Thrive

Thanks to a robust ecosystem of VC funding, networking opportunities, top-of-the-line talent and more, Silicon Valley is one of the United States’ most well-known cities for startups and entrepreneurs.

But, unless you have deep pockets or a direct need to be in the Bay Area, it may not be the best place to launch your next business venture.

Fortunately, the U.S. is full of other metro areas with flourishing economies, skilled workforces and dependable infrastructure. Move over, Silicon Valley, because these X American cities have everything entrepreneurs and small business owners need to thrive

1. Boise, Idaho

You may be surprised to see Idaho’s capital city on a list like this, but Boise has certainly earned its spot. In 2018, Forbes named Boise the country’s fastest-growing city. It’s also earned accolades as a top spot for young professionals.

This growing city has a lot to offer, especially for those who like to spend time outside. Idaho is a dream for lovers of outdoor recreation, and many of the state’s most scenic areas are easily accessible from Boise.

Plus, the city’s relatively low cost of living make it an incredibly attractive spot for entrepreneurs to set up shop.

Community is valued in Boise and there are tons of ways to get involved. Be sure to join local groups when you arrive. You can also rent on-demand virtual office space, which comes with built-in networking opportunities. Intelligent Office’s Boise location is situated in the city’s tallest building, the 8th & Main Building. It’s conveniently located near the Idaho State Capitol Building and is mere steps from Boise's Century Link Arena, the Boise Basque Block, and all of downtowns premier dining and entertainment.

2. Atlanta, Georgia

Georgia’s capital may not be the first city you think about when it comes to the best cities in the U.S. for business, but it should be. Companies in a variety of industries thrive here, though the technology sector in particular has seen tremendous growth in recent years.

The cost of living is extremely affordable compared to many other major metro areas, and that affordability extends to business, too.

If you’re still not convinced, take a look at some of these statistics from Invest Atlanta:

  • #1 Metro Area for lowest cost of doing business
  • 3rd most Fortune 500 company headquarters
  • 1.9 million jobs forecasted to be created by 2040
  • #1 most-traveled airport in the country
  • #3 market for educational attainment

3. Denver, Colorado

Denver’s startup scene has exploded over the past several years, making it an excellent place for your business. Young workers are flocking to the city in droves, too. If you need to hire employees, Denver likely has the support your company needs to grow.

The business community thrives here, so don’t hesitate to get involved in organizations and events. There are tons of opportunities to network and learn throughout the year, like the can’t-miss Denver Startup Week that happens every fall.

Plus, there are other cities surrounding Denver that might also be a good fit for your business or startup. Nearby Boulder is worth checking out if you prefer a smaller city closer to the mountains. If you’d rather be in the middle of Denver and Boulder, nearby Westminster is also home to many businesses, both large and small.

If you’re not sure where to start when choosing a home base in Colorado, Intelligent Office has five locations throughout the Denver-Boulder metro area. As a virtual office member, you would have access to all of these locations and access to our other locations in the U.S. and Canada (for a fraction of the cost of a traditional office lease).
