The Second Act

Many people in their 50s or 60s had, until recently, been gainfully employed at their chosen profession or industry, at a firm, major corporation, or practice. Then, due to downsizing, outsourcing, or whatever phrase of the day describes losing your job, these individuals found themselves pounding the pavement once more looking for employment.  For many, days became weeks, and weeks became months.  Their search was either totally unsuccessful, or they were offered positions that paid significantly less than what they had been receiving prior to being “let go.”

These displaced workers are increasingly deciding to “go out on their own,” either out of desire, necessity, or just because the “new offer” is just not worth taking compared with at least trying to work for themselves.  These workers determine to either start a new venture as an independent contractor/consultant, or in some other way, start seeking “work” instead of a “job.”   This new batch of entrepreneurs or what we often call “solopreneurs” are learning that they can instantly get the image they want without taking on an overhead and long-term commitment that might make their new venture more risky, less profitable, or possibly not even worth the effort.

The Intelligent Office offers professionals going into the “second act” of their careers the opportunity to have a prestigious office address, professional receptionist services, and a state-of-the-art, beautifully decorated and furnished office suite and conference room in which to meet clients.  They enjoy their own private locked mailbox, a professional staff that they do not have to “employ” in the traditional sense, and the beautiful office that they only have to pay for when they use it.  Their new career finds them equipped, staffed and in an environment equal to or better than the corporate world or big-firm life they came from, at a price they can afford, making their solo venture happen, and making it profitable.

In addition to those clients venturing into new solo careers, we serve a number of professionals who had always been solo practitioners, but whose lease has terminated. Although they are not ready to retire, they are also not ready or willing to sign on to a new long-term lease.  The solution is one of our “dedicated offices” here at Intelligent Office, with a short-term lease, and access to everything they were accustomed to with their old leased space and staff.
