Henderson, Nevada is the second largest city in Nevada, after Las Vegas. The city occupies the southeast end of the Las Vegas Valley. Henderson was “born in America’s defense” as it emerged in the 1940’s as the supplier of the “miracle metal”, magnesium, during World War II. Henderson’s Basic Magnesium Plant supplied the United States War Department with the magnesium needed for airplane parts. Henderson is such a remarkable city that during his visit, nearly half a century ago, President John F. Kennedy hailed the city as a “city of destiny.”

Henderson has been ranked one of the best places to live by Money magazine. Prevention magazine ranked Henderson the sixth best walking city in America, ahead of San Diego, California and just behind Seattle, Washington. Henderson has over 37 miles of walking trails and is conveniently located within a few miles of Red Rock National Conservation Area, Lake Las Vegas, and Las Vegas Boulevard’s entertainment, restaurants, and casinos, collectively known as "The Strip".  Henderson has several lush golf courses, spas, casinos, restaurants, movie theaters, and shopping malls which gives the residents and visitors of the community several leisure interests to choose from. Henderson is also the home of several colleges and universities including Touro University Nevada (a private Jewish university related to the college in New York City, Nevada State College, and The Art Institute of Las Vegas.
