HARC

HARC is One of the oldest and most respected agencies serving people with disabilities the Tampa Bay Region since its founding in 1953. HARC is a non-sectarian, non-profit organization founded in 1953 by parents of children with mental retardation to provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Since that time, HARC has evolved into an organization that serves people of all ages with many different kinds of disabilities. HARC is governed by a community Board of Directors, and managed by a dedicated staff of 150 professionals and caregivers, supported by a network of over 100 volunteers. The agency currently services over 400 people each year and continues to grow rapidly. HARC operates many different types of services throughout the county, supporting people in their homes, in the community and on the job. What HARC has to offer: • A main campus in the Egypt Lake section of Tampa has been renamed the Centre for Life Development. This Centre includes an expansion of the day program, a senior center, a home for people with developmental disabilities and Alzheimer’s disease, a caregiver resource center and a community center with a host of educational and training opportunities. • A large vocational training facility in East Tampa serving over 100 people with disabilities. • The oldest, largest and most successful employment program in the region. We are the second largest provider of transportation services to the disabled community in Hillsborough County with a fleet of 27 vans traveling over one million miles per year across all parts of the County. • A Riverview Centre for Life Development provides day services for people with severe disabilities and houses a number of other HARC programs and services. • 8 large group homes for people with developmental disabilities, including children and adults, and one of these has been designated as a home for people with developmental disabilities and Alzheimer’s disease. HARC will be adding 3 additional homes over the next 15 months. • A HARC provides supported living coaching and various other home-based services to enable people with disabilities to live as independently as possible in the community.
